TikTok: What It Is And How To Use It
TikTok, the platform that quickly became a marketing sensation, Is the most popular overall app downloaded globally, following its merge with musical.ly in 2018 (to reach American audiences). With over 850 million downloads globally and over 100 million US users monthly, it’s currently beating WhatsApp which has been downloaded 600 million times.
But what actually is TikTok?
From pranks to challenges, to fitness and more - TikTok is a short-form video and music app, which allows you to create anything you want (according to the guidelines, of course) and use trending audio to match it. At Hypebrid, we work with the pop artist Tinie on TikTok, to create funny, relatable and wide-reaching viral content which both matches Tinie’s style but also ensures he appears on the coveted #FYP (For You Page).
How?
Using TikTok can be a bit of a challenge to start with - however, once you get used to it, you’ll have a blast. As a business, whether you are a social agency (like ourselves) or a small business exploring your options, TikTok is a fun, creative and informative way to reach your audience.
Download the app
Have a look around. Once you start liking things, you’ll notice that the content becomes much more tailored to your taste. You might be asking: “How do we use this as a business?”, well there are a number of business-related hashtags and informative content.
Get started
Set up your business account and start liking things that fit your niche - to ensure that you find the tribe who will love your content. This way you can keep track of what your competitors are also doing, on the app.
Film your videos
Look at what’s trending and make it your own. How do you know what’s trending? Well, what comes up frequently in your ‘For You Page’ or by checking the trends page. Don’t forget, you can click on any audio and find out where it came from. Perfect for creating ‘Stitch’ videos - one of the newest in-product features. Another way to tell if something is trending is by looking at the numbers e.g. How many likes does it have? Has it hit the FYP page? etc.
Create content within the app
If you’ve checked out the trends recently, then you’d know that it’s the simpler videos that get the most hits. This is a strategy that works well for more established creators, right through to absolute beginners. For example, Tinie’s top TikTok clips have been those which have seen him utilise trends and record content on the TikTok platform to great results.
Don’t be scared
Sure, TikTok looks intimidating to start off with but by using some of the little tricks, which we have shared here you will definitely be hitting those users #FYPs sooner than you think.
TikTok is a weird and wonderful place that businesses can and should start utilising more as part of their content strategy. So, why don’t you?
As long as you keep up with the ever-changing trends, post consistently, and do something you also enjoy, people will flock to your page. Have fun with the platform and explore what you think could work best for your business.
